Friday 12th March    Welcome (Cert 15)

Award-winning (Best film: Lumiere Awards 2010) French film

A 17 yearold Kurdish refugee has spent three months travelling across Europe to join his girlfriend who recently emigrated to England. It's been tough, but the end is in sight when he reaches the north coast of France where he can literally see the white cliffs of Dover.  It's here that his journey comes to an abrupt halt as local authorities, and the immigration laws they are enforcing, prevent him from going further.  He decides that the only way to get to England is to swim the channel!  He meets Simon, a fed-up, middle-aged swimming instructor.  Despite the age difference, they discover much in common, and a strong bond develops, essential if both are to realise their dreams of a happy future.  The film has won 7 International awards and has been a huge box office success in France.  Writer-director Philippe Lioret has created an absorbing film, brilliantly blending the social issues of the day (and of the past) and the strength of the human spirit.

Sunday 28th March at 4.00 pm
The Twilight Saga - New Moon (Cert 12A)

After Bella recovers from the vampire attack that almost claimed her life, she looks to celebrate her birthday with Edward and his family.  However, a minor accident during the festivities results in Bella's blood being shed, a sight that proves too intense for the Cullens, who decide to leave the town of Forks, Washington for Bella and Edward's sake.  Initially heartbroken, Bella finds a form of comfort in reckless living, as well as an even-closer friendship with Jacob Black.  Danger in different forms awaits. Conan Doyle's legendary detective (Robert Downey Jnr), and his assistant Watson (Jude Law) close the case of another mystery when they catch serial killer Lord Blackwood. However, it all restarts when the killing spree is resumed and it appears that Blackwood has mysteriously returned from the grave.

And all is not elementary for Holmes as he has to contend with the inevitable dimwit from Scotland Yard, the lure of siren Irene Adams (Rachel McAdams), murder, black magic and the distractions arising from Watson's new fiancée.
