Fundraising

Background

• BCC sought registration as a Charity to help us be economically efficient.
• As a registered charity, we are a not-for-profit organisation that provides a public benefit.  In our case, it’s expressed in clause 2 of our Constitution “The objective of BCC is to advance the education of the public in the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the arts, particularly the art of film and allied visual techniques, by means of the showing of films.  Where practicable, films relating to Cornwall and its heritage and culture, will be included.  In pursuit of its objective, BCC shall be non-profit making and non-political, ie it shall not espouse the cause of any political party.”
• By being a charity, we will not be required to pay tax on any profits and we are also in the privileged position of being able to reclaim tax on Gift-Aided donations.
• Being ‘economically efficient’ is part of our role in providing a public benefit - so that the local community can enjoy films at as low a cost as practicable.
• To help achieve this we rely, to some extent, on fundraising - and any support you can give would be both welcome and appreciated.

Fundraising - ways you can help

1. ‘Easyfundraising’  As implied by the name, it is the easiest way to help raise funds for BCC.  If you buy goods or services online from sites such Amazon, E-bay, Boots, John Lewis, Argos, M & S, Comet, Vodafone, and many, many more - by using Easyfundraising, you help BCC while you shop.  Signing up is free; more details below.

2. Via Gift Aid  If you are a UK taxpayer, BCC is able to reclaim basic rate tax on Gift Aided donations (but not on membership subscriptions.)  There is more information about benefits of Membership and current subscriptions on our Membership page.  You will need to sign a Gift Aid Declaration (click here).  It will not cost you any more to Gift Aid donations.

Easyfundraising

(a) How does it work?  The first step is to sign up by clicking on the banner below or via this link easyfundraising.org.uk/budecinema  

Then, use the links on the Easyfundraising site to go to the retailer you want and shop directly, just as you would normally.  It won’t cost you any more - and a percentage of whatever you spend comes directly to us.

(b)  How much can you raise?  Spend £100 with M&S online or Amazon and you raise £2.50 for BCC. £100 with WH Smith puts £2.00 in our account and so on. There's over 2,000 retailers on their site, and some of the donations can be as much as 15% of your spend.

(c)  Raise money as you search!  In addition to commission on purchases, another way to help is via Easysearch.  There’s an option to set your browser default to Easysearch, and each time you do a search, BCC will get ½p.  It may not seem much, but over a year, just 20 searches a week will generate over a fiver, and if 20 supporters were to do this, BCC would get over £100.  Large oaks from little acorns!
